NAVTEX is the system for the automatic reception of maritime safety information by means of narrow-band direct-printing telegraphy. The International NAVTEX Service is part of an internationally co-ordinated system and broadcasts are on 518 kHz in English. National NAVTEX Services may be established by maritime authorities to meet particular national requirements. These broadcasts may be on 490 kHz, 4209⋅5 kHz or a nationally allocated frequency and may be in either English or the appropriate national language.
