Base Line is a horizontal line drawn at the top of the keel plate. All vertical moulded dimensions are measured relative to this line.
In other words we can explain baseline as :
The baseline, shortly BL, is a line lying in the longitudinal plane of symmetry and parallel to the designed summer load waterline (see next paragraph for a definition). It appears as a horizontal in the lateral and transverse views of the hull surface. The baseline is used as the longitudinal axis, that is the x-axis of the system of coordinates in which hull points are defined.
Therefore, it is recommended to place this line so that it passes through the lowest point of the hull surface. Then, all z-coordinates will be positive.
