What are the precautions while loading Baled cargo?

  1. Baled cargo is easily damaged by chafing.
  2. To prevent chafing, use flatboard dunnage underneath bales since dunnage with sharp edges would cut through the bale wrappings.
  3. Dunnage all metal parts in the hold to prevent damage from moisture.
  4. Bales stowed in the wings of the hold are frequently placed on end so that only the outside layers of cargo will be damaged if moisture condenses on the sides of the ship or should chafing damage the bales.
