General Requirements
Stowaway search is to be made as a matter of routine prior to sailing from port.
If stowaways have boarded, a vessel can experience considerable delays and very high costs trying to arrange for their disembarkation and return.
East & South African ports shall be considered as being high risk areas.
Ships will be notified of any other ports or areas which may fall into this category.
These procedures shall be followed by Masters in event that stowaways are discovered on board.
Within one day from arrival at first port in a high risk area, a search shall be carried out in accordance with instructions. Results of search shall be appropriately entered in the Deck Log Book.
