What is the purpose of holding down bolts?

Purpose of holding down bolts:
  1. To provide a clamping force through friction between bedplate, chock and the ship’s structure in order to resist the propeller thrust.
  2. To provide stiffness to the engine.
  3. To position the engine within the ship’s structure.
  4. To provide good alignment of the engine and transmission shafting and, hence equal load on all bearings.
