The fire safety objectives are to:
- prevent the occurrence of fire and explosion;
- reduce the risk to life caused by fire;
- reduce the risk of damage caused by fire to the vessel, its cargo and the environment;
- contain, control and suppress fire and explosion in the compartment of origin; and
- provide adequate and readily accessible means of escape for crew.
Note :-
The International code for Fire Safety System (FSS CODE) was adopted by Maritime Safety Committee ( MSC) in order too provide international standard for Fire Safety System and equipement required by chapter II – 2 for the 1974 SOLAS convention.
This code is mandatory under SOLAS.
The purpose of this Code is to provide international standards of specific engineering specifications for fire safety systems required by chapter II-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974.
