What is Hot Loading or Hot Stuffing ?

  • The term “Hot-Loading” or “Hot-Stuffing” refers to the situation where the temperature of cargo stuffed into a container is higher than the temperature setting according to the B/L.
  • Manual defrost onboard the vessels or on the terminals must be performed every 3-6 hours until the cargo is on temperature
  • The reefer machinery will be put under stress often with a malfunction as the final result
  • This strain will decrease the efficiency of the container because the frequent defrost cycles make temperature control difficult which may result in poor quality of the product
