What is Container Marking and how it is done ?

  • Each container is identified by a series of 5 to 7 digits having four letter prefix which identifies it owner .
  • Example : NOLU  210001

A 20′ dry container owned by Neptune Orient Lines

  • Numbers on the container must be clearly displayed on the four sides and the roof as well as on the inside for easy checking and identification as the container moves from one location to another .
  • Other markings on door include the manufacturer data plate , customs and safety plate ,
  • container tare weight , internal cubic capacity and maximum gross weight .

The company’s logo is also prominently displayed to highlight its corporate image .
