What does Safety signal indicates ?

Safety signal “Securite” indicates that an important meteorological or navigational warning is about to follow.

Safety alert:

In GMDSS, safety alert indicates that an important meteorological or navigational warning is about to follow. The message is send on working channel/ frequency after the announcement of the distress frequency. Most safety calls/ message send upon receipt an at the end of the next silence period.

Radio telephony silence period

00 – 03 minutes

30 – 33 minutes          every hour

Note:
  • VHF CH-13 is used as an internship navigational safety
  • All stations safety alert is transmitted on DSCCH – 70 and 5 Khz.
  • Safety message is transmitted on CH – 16 or CH -13 and 2182 kHz.

Listen for Navigational warning on frequency/ channel.

In case if channel in changed, or working frequency or channel is changed, the safety call should be repeated.
