EXERCISE-21

  1. On 3rd May 1992, PM at ship in DR 400 11’N 650 30’W, the sextant altitude of JUPITER near the meridian was 6004’ at 00h 13m 50s chron time (error 04m 10s slow). If IE was 0.3’ on the arc and HE was 14m, find the direction of the PL and a position through which it passes.

  1. On 30th Nov 1992, PM at ship in DR 560 04’N 1200 04’E, the sextant altitude 0f SATURN near the meridian was 1606’ at 09h 01m 49s chron time (error 02m 05s fast). If IE was nil and HE was 17m, find the direction of the PL and the latitude where it cuts the DR longitude.

  1. On 14th Oct 1992, during morning twilight in DR 630 55’N 1100 20’W, the observed altitude of MARS near the meridian was 4905’ at 01h 15m 20s by chron (error 01m 00s slow). HE 10m. Find the direction of the PL and a position through which to draw it.
Solution –3A 3B 3C
  1. On 17th Jan 1992, AM at ship in DR 450 02’S 360 42’E, the sextant altitude of JUPITER near the meridian was 3708’ when chron (error 01m 06s slow) showed 01h 26m 14s. If IE was 0.6’ off the arc and HE was 12m, find the direction of the PL and a position through which it passes.
Solution –4A 4B 4C
  1. On 4th May 1992, AM at ship in DR 520 13’S 640 15’W, the observed altitude of SATURN near the meridian was 5308’ at 10h 59m 51s chron time. If chron error was 01m 51s fast and HE was 20m, find the direction of the PL and the lat where it cuts the DR long.
