1.       Draught survey complete.  
2.       Ship/Shore Safety checklist completed with stevedore /terminal representative.  
3.       Loading and deballasting plan with Duty Officer & posted in Cargo office  
4.       All hatch covers open and secured.  
5.       All guardrails in place.  
6.       All ballast tank, void space and hold access lids shut.  
7.       All fire fighting equipment and safety equipment (specified in the code) in readiness.  
8.       No smoking, notices displayed.  
9.       All ballast tank ventilators in the “OPEN” position.  
10.                         Engine room given notice for use of ballast pumps.  
11.                         Mechanical ventilation to machinery spaces shut down (if required).  
12.                         All bilges covered and plates secure and same recorded.  
13.                         Personnel and tools in readiness to change over “Wet holds” after deballast.  
14.                         Outside equipment provided with dust covers. (eg. Bridge repeaters / projectors/ Lifeboat / Liferafts etc.)  
15.                         Air conditioning system put on “Recirculation”.  
16.                         Deck Watchman on duty to tend gangway and moorings.

Watch keeping officers and crew informed of the hazards involved in the particular cargo to be loaded and that they are familiar with the precautions to be taken.
